Competing "Upside Down"
Reality Sports and Jubilee REACH have partnered to provide a middle school sports program for the Bellevue Public Schools. An after-school sports program has been absent from the district for 26 years, but in the fall of 2011, boys and girls soccer was launched in all 7 middle schools.
We have implemented a coaching philosophy called "Competing Upside Down." Working to bless our opponent, the referee, and the fans is a radical notion in today's sports culture. Unfortunately, we are encouraged in the athletic arena to view our opponent as enemy, rival, and foe. The truth is, without our opponent we have no game! So, we're actually very grateful for the opportunity to play. The goal to bless our opponent the moment they show up in the arena (as well as all involved in the contest including the referee and the fans) is "upside down" from what our kids are learning about sport as they grow up.
Click on the video in the upper right hand corner to catch a glimpse of "Competing Upside Down" when two middle schools meet for a soccer game and the coaches are prepared to bless each other. Make no mistake--these coaches and athletes want to win. These games are intense! However, everyone will walk away blessed by participating in the contest.
