2020 PACIFIC NW

Sports Ministry Summer Internship

June 15 - August 7

An experience you will never forget!

The 2020 Pacific NW Sports Ministry Immersion Experience is an 8-week (June 15-August 7), four-phase paid summer internship*, designed for men and women (18+), to experience gospel-centered sports ministry with the leaders and coaches of Reality Sports, a Pacific NW-based sports ministry founded in 2006. Our unique application of the gospel to an athlete’s training and competition will provide you with experience you cannot find anywhere else. From being equipped to “preach” intentional, gospel messages during workouts, to being challenged to make disciple-makers through the context of sport, you will grow as a believer, a coach, and an athlete.

Don’t miss this opportunity to participate in a life-changing immersion experience designed to help you discern or solidify God’s call to sports ministry!

If you have any questions, please contact Josh Breffle at (253) 988-1575.

IMMERSE PHASE

The Immerse Phase is a 4-week experience in which you are introduced to, and immersed in, the foundations and culture of Reality Sports as a ministry. These 4 weeks will be a lot of applicable experience-based classroom work, observation of “on the ground” sports ministry, and a whole lot of fun. Our aim in the first 4 weeks of the Sports Ministry Immersion Experience is to allow each participant to experience and understand what sets Reality Sports apart from other sports ministries, as well as build a highly relational, tight-knit team of summer immersion students. These 4 weeks will be marked by a lot of learning and a lot of fun team building activities.

A sample day of the Immerse Phase can be seen below.

EQUIP PHASE

The Equip Phase will be a 2-week experience in which you are able to apply what you learned in the Immerse Phase. Each participant will serve in different sports camps over these two weeks based on experience, passion, and need. The main focus will be on applying the gospel through sport, while also developing as coaches and sports missionaries. Camp opportunities will range from multi-sport camps done as outreach with partner churches to highly specialized, sport-specific camps put on for Reality Sports athletes. Regardless of which camp(s) a participant serves in, the experience gained will be invaluable to their development as a sports missionary.

A sample day of the Equip Phase can be seen below.

transform

The Transform Phase will be a 1-week outdoor excursion led by a Reality Sports licensed outdoor guide in one of Washington's stunning mountain ranges. This experience will be an opportunity for participants to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually while being immersed in God’s beautiful creation. This phase will consist of hiking, backpacking, camping, team building exercises, journaling, meditating, and worshiping. We pray that this Transform Phase will be a very special time of reflection during which you will have the opportunity to slow down, contemplate your immersion experience, and listen to what God wants you to hear about your future.

DEBRIEF PHASE

The final week of the immersion experience will be spent in a very intentional Debrief Phase, during which time you will be able to process your experience. The staff at Reality Sports will use this week to help you discern what might be next for you in regard to Sports ministry. We will also use this week to conclude the Sports Ministry Immersion Experience with some more fun and team building activities throughout the Pacific Northwest. A sample day of the Debrief Phase can be seen below.

cost

Our intent is that each participant would independently raise the support required to cover the cost of the Sports Ministry Immersion Experience. However, this is a very unique opportunity - we are offering the Sports Ministry Immersion Experience as a paid* internship so that the sacrifice of your entire summer does not result in a significant sacrifice of income. This is especially beneficial for those of you who are putting yourself through college! Reality Sports will also provide tools to help with fundraising.
